Kendriyo Kochi Kachar Mela's cultural extravaganza


Kendriyo Kochi Kachar Mela (KKKM), one of the oldest children's organisations in the country, held a two-day cultural programme to celebrate Victory Day. The function began on December 15 at the KKKM building complex, Shegunbagicha. The first session of the celebration included a children's parade, exchanging perspectives on the Liberation War and performances by children from Khagrachhori, Srimongal, Moulovibazar, Ullapara, Shirajganj, Kushtia, Manikgonj and others.

The second session of this function was held at the National Museum auditorium on the same day. Eleven eminent personalities, including Dr Anisuzzaman, Nirmal Kanti Das Gupta, Mohammed Amjad Hossain, Faiz Ahmed, artist Hashem Khan, Shamsuzzaman Khan, Mohammed Kutub Uddin Ahmed, Mir Zahir Hossain, Dr Ali Asgar, Dr Zafar Iqbal and Professor Shafiul Alam were given a warm reception and awards for their contribution to their respective fields.

Posthumous awards were announced to Rokunuzzaman Khan aka Dadabhai, Begum Sufia Kamal, Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia, Dr Abdullah Al-Muti Sharfuddin, Mohammed Nasir Uddin, MA Wadud, Barrister Abdul Haque, Luthful Haider Chowdhury, Hasan Jaan, Professor Ajit Kumar Guha and Shukhendu Chakrabarty. The Norwegian and Japan embassies bagged awards in the organisation category.

Presided over by the former child convenor of KKKM during the '60s and advocate Sultana Kamal, the programme was attended by renowned personalities such as Noor Jahan Begum, editor of Begum; writer Selina Hossain; Tasmima Hossain, editor of Ananya; Director of KKKM, Khondokar Ibrahim Khaled and Architect Rabiul Hossain as the special guest. Eminent singers Papya Sarwar, Shimul Youssuff, Jolly Rahman and others performed at the event.

On December 16, KKKM's cultural programme included discussion, film screening and cultural programme. Reminiscences by eminent Freedom Fighter Mohammad Kamal Hossain; poet Mohammed Mustafa and architect Rabiul Hossain were part of the discussion.

The organisation celebrated its Golden Jubilee on October 5 this year.
