An array of programmes by Sammilito Sangskritik Jote

With the slogan Chhinna karo ondhakarer aai jaal, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote (SSJ) celebrated the 36th Victory Day with different programmes. As part of the four-day-long victory day celebration, SSJ organised a cultural programme at the Bakultala premises, Institute of Fine Arts on December 14. The stage was dedicated to the memory of artist Nitun Kundu.

The organisation has been organising cultural programmes to celebrate Victory Day since 1990. Like previous years, this time also SSJ paid its tribute to the heroes of the momentous episode of our history (Liberation War in 1971).

Veteran actor and freedom fighter Aly Zaker was present as chief guest. Golam Kuddus, general secretary of SSJ; Selim Shamsul Huda Chowdhury, convenor of the programme also delivered speeches.

In his speech, Aly Zaker said, "Bangladesh is the name of the triumph, a nine-month war against the Pakistan army and their local collaborators and the sacrifice of three millions martyrs. Our culture is manifested in various forms, including music, dance and drama, art and craft, folklore and folktales, literature, philosophy, religion and festivals. However, some forces who opposed the creation of Bangladesh are creating obstacles to our cultural practices, which are integral parts of our heritage."

He also urged people from all walks of life to come forward and forge a united movement against the ongoing misrule and blue print of the evil powers.

Members of Padatik Sangeet Sangsad rendered the National Anthem and a patriotic song, Bicharpoti tomar bichar. The stage was decorated with coloured festoons and crowded with hundreds of viewers.

Kendrio Alor Bhubon Shishu Kishore Parisad, performed a dance number along with a patriotic song. Different cultural organisations such as Ustad Momtaj Ali Khan Sangeet Academy, Shurtaal Sangeet Academy and Swar performed at the event.

The singers included Bipul Bhattacharjee, Mamun Zahid Khan and Rupu Khan. Groups of recitors such as Kotha, Boikonthi and Sworokompon Abritti Chokro entertained the audience with their recitations.

The evening rounded up with a potho natak (street theatre), performed by Nattyojoddha.

SSJ also held a cultural programme at Rabindra Sarobor, Dhanmondi on the same day.

The curtains went up with the National Anthem by Rabindro Shangeet Shammilan Parishad (RSSP), Dhaka City. After the National Anthem, Ramendu Majumder, president of International Theatre Institute (ITI) Bangladesh, inaugurated the event.
