The killed were identified as Shahabuddin, 38, and Abdur Rashid, 28, both from Raijoara in the upazila.

According to sources, the accident occurred when some 15 people were cutting hills at Raojoara in the morning. Shahabuddin and Rashid were killed on the spot.

Of the injured, eight were admitted to the upazila health complex. A case was filed with Chandanaish Police Station.

Some influential quarters have long been engaged in illegal hill cutting in different areas of Raijoara, Hatia and Siraj Driverer Tek in Chandanaish for getting land and earth for sale to owners of brick kilns.
