Polls to be held in time
Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Mahfuzur Rahman yesterday expressed hope that the upcoming general election will be held in time.
Talking live to a private TV channel on the EC premises, he declined to make any comment on resignation of the four advisers and troops deployment.
He affirmed that the voter list will soon be rid of errors.
Meanwhile, two controversial election commissioners--SM Zakaria and Modabbir Hossain Chowdhury-- held a meeting at the office of the former yesterday afternoon.
Earlier, ex-lawmaker from Jamaat-e-Islami Delowar Hossain Saidee met Zakaria.
About the ongoing task of correcting the updated voter list, the acting CEC claimed owners of the multi-storey buildings are not co-operating in this regard.
"They don't want to say whether anyone has left their buildings or died," he added.
ZAKARIA-MODABBIR TALKS
Modabbir entered the office of SM Zakaria at about 3:50pm and came out at 4:45pm.Except their personal staff, no one was allowed in the room.
He did not make any comment when the journalists waiting outside sought his views on the advisers' package proposals regarding reconstitution of the EC.
Then when asked if he was going on leave, a visibly stunned Modabbir said, "What leave, whose leave, and why?"
ZAKARIA-SAIDEE MEETING
About his half-an-hour meeting with Zakaria, Delowar Hossain Saidee said, "We didn't discuss the current political situation. I just came to talk about some problems regarding election at my constituency."
