An alleged mugger died yesterday after being severely beaten up by an angry mob at Jatrabari in the capital on Friday night.

The dead was identified as Arif Khan, 25. Two other muggers also sustained injury during the beating. They are Shahidullah, 23 and Babu, 25.

Sources said that the criminals were trying to mug a passer-by at around 9:30pm near the Jatrabari Shikdi area. As the victim cried out for help, locals rushed to the spot and caught the muggers after chasing them.

After beating them up, the mob handed over the hijackers to the police.

Police later admitted them at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where Arif succumbed to his injuries in the early hours yesterday.
