Cartoon exhibition on Int'l Anti-corruption Day

To mark the International Anti-corruption Day (December 9), a three-day cartoon exhibition titled Durnitir Biruddey Cartoon (Cartoon Against Corruption) is going on at the Drik Gallery. The exhibition was inaugurated on December 7.Images of people flushing the personified corruption down the toilet; worms of corruption eating away to the core of a tree, representing Bangladesh and the fast and furious corruption express being tamed by timely initiative are among some of the attention-grabbers on display at the exhibition. According to the organisers, corruption by a limited number of powerful individuals is the most formidable challenge against governance, development and poverty reduction in Bangladesh and the vast majority of the people are victims of corruption. With the objective to mobilise the young generation against corruption and to raise their level of patriotism, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) recently organised the first anti-corruption cartoon competition. The exhibition displays a total of 60 cartoons that have received awards or special mention in the competition. Nearly 200 young participants from all over the country within the age limit of 35, participated in the competition. The cartoons deal with different issues like administrative corruption in public and private sectors, price hike of essentials, bribing, fake votes and Bangladesh being listed among the top countries where corruption is perceived to be high. The hard-hitting satirical images call for immediate action against corruption. The exhibition ends today.
