The victim, identified as Bijon Kumar Barman, son of Anil Kumar Barman, hailed from Panchagarh district.

Police and witnesses said Bijon along with his friends came to Polo ground from nearby Pathantuli area to play football in the early morning.

At one stage Bijon received a shot on his chest and fell down rolling on the ground.

He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Bijon was an amateur and was not enlisted with any of the local football clubs, sources said.
