DW radio to launch evening Bengali programme


Deutsche Welle (DW), a leading German radio, will broadcast an additional Bengali programme every evening from October 29.

Presently, the DW Radio is broadcasting its programme in 30 languages, including Bangla. The Bangla programme is now being broadcast for one hour from 7:00am to 8:00am (BST).

Thomas Barthlein, Head of Bengali, Hindi and Urdu programmes of DW radio, now in Dhaka told UNB yesterday that they have decided to broadcast an additional Bangla programme from 9:30pm to 10pm responding to requests from Bangladeshi listeners.

The morning Bangla programme will now be broadcast from 8:00am to 8:30am under the changed schedule from October 29.

He said around 6,00,000 Bangla-speaking people are listening to DW Bengali programme in the morning. The Bengali programme is being broadcast for the last 30 years.

He said news on political affairs will be given more emphasis in the evening session and the quality of the programme will also be improved.

Following the fresh schedule, the Bengali-speaking listeners around the world will be able to learn latest news of the day at the evening session, Barthlein said.
