Chinese co gets purchase body nod to operate power plant

The government has appointed a Chinese company for next one year to operate and maintain Barapukuria coal-fired thermal power plant reportedly without floating international tender.CMC Consortium, the Chinese company, earlier completed its agreement through commencing the implementation of the project. The government has to pay Tk 12 crore to the company for their next one year's job. Thirty Chinese experts of the CMC Consortium are to look after the 250-MW power plant. The decision came from a meeting of cabinet committee on public purchase yesterday with Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman in the chair, according to an officially disclosure. The meeting also approved eleven more proposals. The meeting over, the finance minister told reporters that the meeting approved all the projects on priority basis, "especially a Tk 26-crore project for the police".
