Police Excesses
14-party to stage demonstration tomorrow


The Awami League (AL)-led 14-party opposition combine will stage demonstrations across the country tomorrow to protest against the police excesses on Awami Swechchhasebak League leaders yesterday.

The 14-party will also stage demonstrations on September 28 protesting against the skyrocketing price of essentials. On October 6, they will hold demonstrations demanding uninterrupted power supply.

The opposition combine at an emergency meeting held at AL's Dhanmondi office, with Presidium Member Amir Hossain Amu in the chair, made the decisions.

The meeting condemned and protested the police atrocities on the Swechchhasebak League leaders. They decided to observe tomorrow as 'Demonstration Day'.

At least 20 leaders of Swechchhasebak League were injured when police, without provocations, attacked an opposition procession with truncheons near Russell Square in Dhanmondi.

Senior leaders including Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, 14-party Coordinator Abdul Jalil, Motia Chowdhury, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haque Inu, Dilip Barua, Advocate Zahirul Islam, Abdul Mannan were present at the meeting.
