Ex-Navy Officer Murder
Suspect on 7-day remand


A suspect arrested in connection with the murder of retired Bangladesh Navy officer was remanded for seven days yesterday.

Police arrested one Mohammad Mustafa from Rana Bhola area on Sunday night for his alleged involvement in the murder of Lt Commander (Retd) Syed Moyeenuddin Ahmed.

Investigation Officer (IO) Giasuddin of Uttara Police Station told The Daily Star that Mustafa, a truck owner, admitted to having a previous enmity with Moyenuddin, vice-president of Uttara Sector 10 Welfare Society, as he restricted the plying of trucks from Ashulia to Uttara through the Sector 10.

Mustafa however denied the allegation of his involvement in the murder, the IO added.

Moyeenuddin's son Major Syed Muzakker Ahmed filed a murder case with the Uttara Police Station.

Muzakker said he suspects Mustafa along with Anwar Chisty and Anil for their involvement in the murder of his father.

Police are looking for Anil and Anwar who had been hiding since the murder.

Moyeeinuddin was strangled inside his house at Uttara on Sunday.
