Boca, Estudiantes continue winning

Boca Juniors and Estudiantes won again at the weekend to keep up their 100 percent records after three games of the Argentine Apertura championship.Defender Matias Silvestre scored the only goal as defending champions Boca ended Independiente's flying start to the season with a 1-0 win at the Bombonera stadium. Independiente had scored seven goals on their way to winning their first two games under new coach Jorge Burruchaga. Estudiantes, coached by former Argentina captain Diego Simeone, condemned hapless Colon to their ninth successive defeat as they won 2-0 with two goals from striker Mariano Pavone. Pavone won and converted a penalty in the 26th minute and scored with an angled shot from Jose Ernesto Sosa's pass in the 81st. The visitors played the second half with 10 men after striker Jose Sand was dismissed for insulting the referee five minutes before half time. Racing Club enjoyed a 3-1 win over River Plate, who had Marcelo Gallardo and Cristian Nasuti sent off in the last three minutes. Striker Gonzalo Bergessio gave Racing an early lead before Ariel Ortega equalised with his first goal for River since rejoining them at the start of the season. Facundo Sava put Racing back in front before half time and midfielder Adrian Bastia made it 3-1 midway through the second half.
