Defender Matias Silvestre scored the only goal as defending champions Boca ended Independiente's flying start to the season with a 1-0 win at the Bombonera stadium.

Independiente had scored seven goals on their way to winning their first two games under new coach Jorge Burruchaga.

Estudiantes, coached by former Argentina captain Diego Simeone, condemned hapless Colon to their ninth successive defeat as they won 2-0 with two goals from striker Mariano Pavone.

Pavone won and converted a penalty in the 26th minute and scored with an angled shot from Jose Ernesto Sosa's pass in the 81st.

The visitors played the second half with 10 men after striker Jose Sand was dismissed for insulting the referee five minutes before half time.
