The 31-year-old midfielder had attracted the interest of several clubs around Europe after starring for the Socceroos during their impressive World Cup campaign in Germany, where they reached the second round.

But Chipperfield has ended speculation about his immediate future by agreeing a new deal with Basel that will see him stay in Switzerland until June 2009, the club said in a statement.
