Angry soccer fans create barricade on road in Satkhira


Angry soccer fans here yesterday brought out a procession and put up barricade on the Satkhira-Assasuni Road in front of the PDB office protesting power outage during World Cup football match.

The processionists paraded the main streets of the town and created barricade on the road when police prevented them from entering the PDB office. They hurled stones at the office and damaged its furniture and windowpanes.

The road barricade created a long snarl up of vehicles on both the sides of the road.

A meeting was held there which was addressed by, among others, Firoz Ahmed, Asaduzzaman Babu, Kazi Akhtar Hossain.

Speakers blamed the inefficient PDB men for frequent power outage and sufferings of people.

They threatened a tougher agitation if the authorities failed to ensure smooth supply of power within 24 hours of their demonstration.

On contact, Satkhira PDB residential engineer said, mob attacked the office and damaged its furniture as they could not watch the World Cup match due to power outage.

A large contingent of forces have been deployed at the office to avoid any untoward incident further.
