Politics should be for people's welfare
Says ex-Navy chief

Speakers at a discussion meeting in Narsingdi said politicians should do politics for welfare of people, not for their own interests.

They were speaking at a view exchange meeting with local journalists and social workers at Hasnabad Public Library at Raipura in Narsingdi on Friday.

Former chief of naval staff Rear Admiral M Nurul Islam attended the meeting as chief guest while Captain F K Khan (retd), a social worker and educationist, participated the discussion as a special guest.

Narsingdi Press Club and Raipura Pashchimanchal, a local socio-cultural body, jointly organised the meeting.

The former navy chief said politics gives a person the opportunity to serve the people. They should properly utilise the scope.

"I believe I can do more for people if I join politics", he said.

He praised local students for establishing a public library in such a rural area.
