Phulbari Coal Mine
Eviction of indigenous people protested


Several hundred indigenous people under the banner of Jatiya Adivasi Parishad formed a human chain and held a rally at Shaheeb Bazer zero point yesterday protesting a move for eviction of indigenous people from Phulbari coal mine area in Dinajpur.

Speakers at the rally urged the government not to evict their people from Phulbari in the name of coal extraction and to stop grabbing of their lands by local Bangalees.

They also criticised the police administration for not taking action against the culprits.

They also demanded constitutional rights for indigenous people and government steps to help them protect their culture.

Parishad president Bimol Chandra presided over the rally, addressed by Mony Raza Karmokar , Dabashis Pramanik, Gonesh Mazi and Ziku Mazi.
