Stalemate at Darul Ihsan
Students urge govt to appoint interim administrator

Students concerned over their academic future due to stalemate centring claim by two persons as the vice-chancellor of Darul Ihsan University urged the president and the prime minister to appoint an interim administrator to ensure smooth functioning of the university.

"We demand immediate government interference in the matter, otherwise academic career of around 2000 students of the university will be in jeopardy," Jashimuddin Tipu told a news conference on behalf of the aggrieved students at the university's Shyamoli campus in the city yeaterday.

The academic and administrative activities of the university have been suffering serious setback for around last one and a half months following a stalemate that began when both Prof Syed Ali Naki, the former pro-vice chancellor, and Prof MA Rashid, the present treasurer, claimed themselves as the vice chancellor.

The students said they do not consider Ali Naki as their VC as he is neither appointed as the VC by the chancellor nor his name was proposed to the Ministry of Education as the VC.

Referring to a rule nishi issued by the High Court recently, the students said the High Court in its rule nishi has not mentioned anything about the claims by two persons as the VC.
