'25 killed in crossfire in May'

Law and order situation across the country deteriorated further during the month of May, said a report of Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs (Bilia) yesterday.The report was prepared on the basis of stories published in seven leading national newspapers. According to the report, 291 people were murdered in May. Of them, 25 were killed extra-judicially in the name of crossfire, 13 by the Border Security Forces of India while political clashes took the lives of 12 others. In the previous month, 21 people were killed in crossfire while BSF killed seven Bangladeshis. Among the total killed, 75 were women. Of them, 11 were killed for dowry and 64 for other reasons. Seven women were raped while five received acid-burn injuries. A total of 14 children were killed, nine raped while one was the victim of acid throwing. Besides, there were incidents of trafficking of women and children in the month.
