BD Foods chairman sent to jail

After a 17-day remand in three phases in two cases, BD Foods Chairman Badruddoza Chowdhury Momen, arrested on charge of smuggling heroin to the United Kingdom (UK), was sent to the Dhaka Central Jail yesterday.

Badruddoza was arrested on May 14 after Nazmul Haider Bulbul, a former BD Foods official, and his accomplice Mokhlesur Rahman Nayan, a cargo handler, confessed to a magistrate that they smuggled 22.5kg of heroin to the UK at Badruddoza's directives.

Later, Badruddoza was shown arrested in the case filed for smuggling 54kg of heroin to the UK and placed on a seven-day remand on May 29 for further interrogation.
