Centre of Excellence for Science
Veena Sikri assures DU of all help


Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Veena Sikri assured Dhaka University (DU) authorities of providing all possible assistance and cooperation for development of the Centre of Excellence for Science.

The assurance came during a meeting between DU authorities and a high-powered delegation from Indian educational institutions at the DU Vice-Chancellor's office in the city yesterday, said a press release.

The delegation comprised of Dr RK Soni of Physics Department of the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, Professor Santanu Bhattacharya of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Dr LS Shashidahra, Scientist of CCMB, Hyderabad and GL Sagar of Educational Consultants India Ltd, Uttar Pradesh.

Indian Deputy High Commissioner S Chakravarti, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor AFM Yusuf Haider, Dean of the Faculty of Science Professor Tazmeri SA Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Professor Anowar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Professor Abdur Rashid and Director of the Centre of Excellence Professor Amir Hossain Khan were also present at the meeting.

They discussed issues of mutual interest, especially the possibilities of strengthening scientific cooperation, exchange of teachers-students and other collaborative programmes between Dhaka University and the Indian Institutions of Higher Education.
