Anarchy prevails as ministries under PM fail : Hasina
Unb, Dhaka
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Sheikh Hasina yesterday said a complete anarchy has gripped the country as the ministries under prime minister have failed."People are now extremely concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation. Innocent people are being killed everyday as the Home Ministry under the PM has totally failed to ensure public security," she told a discussion. Awami League (AL) sub-committee on forest and environment arranged the meeting at National Press Club marking the World Environment Day. Hasina, also AL president, said the Civil Aviation Ministry, which is also under Prime Minister, has been brought down to its knees for her (PM) failure. Blaming the PM for unrest in the garment factories, Hasina renewed her allegation that Khaleda wants to assume presidency to rig the next elections. "God knows what happened at that time when Khaleda had gone to visit the president. The president had to be taken to hospital after her visit to Bangabhaban. Her husband General Zia had also made the then president sick at gunpoint," she said. She said the Khaleda-Nizami government has not only destroyed the environment, but also polluted the political, social and economic atmospheres. "It seems that this government is enemy of the environment. Its cadres have been engaged in destroying trees, forests and lakes. Democracy is also at stake due to militancy promoted by the government. The economy has been made unstable. In fact, there is no peace in public life," she said. Hasina described the alliance government as anti-people saying that they are not at all concerned about public sufferings as they are busy making their fortunes and killing people. "When ministers and the ruling party MPs are plundering public funds, the government is taking loan from donor countries and agencies and spending it on their own purposes," she told the meeting. She said the sooner this tyrannical regime is gone the better for the country. "Its ouster is the only solution to all problems." Hasina urged the countrymen to make 14-party's Dhaka siege programme on June 11 a success to expedite fall of the government. MA Mannan presided over the meeting. Dr SM Imamul Haque, chairman of Soil, Water and Environment Department of Dhaka University and Dr M Jasim Uddin, associate professor, Institute of Forestry and Environment Sciences of Chittagong University, presented two papers at the meeting.
