Intern docs end strike at SSMCH

The intern doctors of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital yesterday called off their strike after the authorities gave assurance to pay off the arrears and arrange a temporary solution to their residential problems.

"We have given the authority two days' time to meet our demands and if the demands are not met we will resume our movement," said an agitating intern doctor.

The interns have been abstaining from work and agitating in the hospital since Thursday demanding adequate residential facilities, unpaid salaries for five months and payment of salary by the 5th of every month.

Prof M Abdullah, principal of the medical college, said residential facilities for the intern doctors will be arranged soon, but for the moment they will have to stay with the students.
