About the song Bhupen Hazarika says, "I wrote the song after the socio-political disorder in Assam and Nagaland during the late 1960s." The song was initially written in Assamese. It was translated to Bangla in 1978.

Amar bhai-er roktey rangano ekushey February, the song that has become an anthem to remember the Language Martyrs of 1952, was written by Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury.
