Tushar Khan
Excelling in comic roles
Cultural Correspondent
Tushar Khan is one of the few TV actors to win appreciation for his comic roles. Besides acting in TV plays, including mega serials and single episode plays, such as Tobuo Achhe Manush, Khelaghar and others, Tushar Khan has acted in many films.Since his performance in the movie Ajker Protibad, directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam in 1994, Tushar has performed in 48 films. His performances in movies such as Wrong Number, Hridoyer Katha, Taka, Shubha, Khude Joddha and others have been widely appreciated. Tushar says, "Initially I used to perform in comic roles in the cinema. Today, however, I perform in serious as well as negative characters. I prefer negative characters to comic roles. For instance in AQ Khokon's movie Khude Joddha, I've acted in a villainous role. But, if I get quality comedy characters I seize the opportunity. In fact, since many good films are being made currently, I am keen to act more on the silver screen." In 1983, Tushar Khan embarked on his acting career as a regular member of theatre troupe Aranyak Natya Dal. He made his debut with the play Iblish. Since then he has performed in all of the troupe's productions. Tushar said, "I'm always grateful to my mentor Mamunur Rashid. I'm basically an actor. On stage I've performed in diverse roles." Tushar enlisted as a BTV actor in 1989. His performance as Jamal in the TV drama serial Itikatha by Mamunur Rashid, made him popular amongst the masses. Tushar said, "Again it's Mamunur Rashid, who has given me a huge break in TV drama. In Itikatha, I played the role of Jamal, a rural character. After that, I enacted a diametrically opposite character in Shilpi, the first serial made under 'package drama'. In the play I performed the role of an urban individual who returns home after having lived overseas for several years. Subsequently the viewers found diversity in me." Besides acting, Tushar Khan has appeared in many TV commercials.
