Jamaat leader held for JMB link
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday afternoon arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami leader at Dinajpur Railway Station Bazar for his alleged links with Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Dinajpur Jamaat unit Ameer Aftab Uddin Mollah said Abdul Majid, 52, is a Rokon member of Jamaat. He is also the president of the editors' panel of Weekly Ajker Dinajpur.
He was being quizzed at Rab's temporary office at Shapla Square in Rangpur yesterday.
A Rab source said acting on a tip off they arrested Majid at a bookstall in Dinajpur Railway Station Bazar. The source claimed Rab arrested him for his active involvement with JMB.
Majid was the Rajshahi Divisional Treasurer of JMB and he looked after the legal affairs of JMB in the division, the source added.
Rab had arrested Abdul Majid last October, at the Rokon conference in Dinajpur, in connection with the August 17 bomb blasts there. Rab sources said Majid was released on a guarantee of Aftab Uddin Mollah that he would be returned when Rab needed to quiz him.
