Parents are anxiously waiting beside a hospital bed in which their fifteen-year-old son Tasnim Rafi, a cadet, is lying unconscious for nearly one and a half months.Rafi, a brilliant student and SSC examinee of Rangpur Cadet College, was diagnosed with acute demyelinated myeloencephalitis (ADM) after he was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka on January 25. According to doctors, it will take a long time for him to recover. But the treatment is too expensive. He has been given a package injection worth Tk three lakh. And the hospital bills have already amounted to Tk eight lakh. Another huge amount of money is needed for his treatment. Rafi's father Dr Abdul Latif Shah, chief scientific officer of BRRI, has appealed to the affluent section of society to extend a helping hand to save his son.
