Boy burnt alive while 8 shops gutted in Ctg


A boy was burned alive and eight shops were gutted causing damage of property worth over Tk 30 lakh in a devastating fire at Satkania upazila in Chittagong district in the early hours of yesterday.

The dead was identified as Shahidul Islam Shafi, 13, son of Late Lal Mian of East Billa Para village of Keranihat.

Fire Service sources said the fire originated from electric short-circuit at a shop of a market at Keranihat at around 12:25am. It spread fast engulfing the adjoining shops and burnt the boy who got trapped inside a burning shop.

The rising blaze reduced eight shops to ashes. One motorbike was also completely damaged in the fire.

Three fire fighting units from Patiya, Bandarban and Chakaria stations extinguished the fire after a four-hour effort, sources said.
