Cruciani releases six for MSC's Thailand trip

A reluctant Diego Cruciani released six players from the national camp for Mohammedan Sporting Club's brief tour of Thailand.

Mohammedan officials had promised their players a foreign trip for winning one of the major trophies this season and the popular club will leave Dhaka this morning for a three-day tour.

During this time, they will play a friendly against a local side -- opposition unknown -- on tomorrow in Bangkok. Mohammedan will also take this match as part of their preparation for the AFC Cup, which kicks off next month.

Argentine coach Cruciani, who is preparing the national team for their February 22 away clash against Uzbekistan in the Asian Cup qualifiers, did not want to hamper training by freeing the six Mohammedan booters.

However, a decision by Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president SA Sultan made way for Alfaz Ahmed, Matiur Munna, Biplab Bhattachariya, Nazrul Islam, Asadur Rahman and Arman Aziz to join the Black and Whites squad.

"Cruciani was unwilling to release the players but he gave the responsibility back to us," said BFF general secretary Anwarul Hoque Helal yesterday.

"The international rule says we can't force the players to stay with the national team. The clubs have cooperated with us in the past so we decided to oblige with their request," he said adding that the president himself took the decision.

"According to FIFA rules, the national team can bind players seven days before an international match. We will also release the players from the national squad in the future if they have club commitment," informed Helal.

Cruciani, who believes in the motto of 'national team first' had a brief talk with the six footballers after yesterday's training, giving them a few instructions to avoid injuries.

Meanwhile, Rajani Kanta Barman finally joined the camp yesterday but was restricted to light training.
