Indian minister treated for ankle pain

Visiting Indian Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar yesterday received treatment for his ankle sprain at a city hospital.

Sources said Aiyar before flying from London suffered from ankle sprain as one of his feet twisted.

On arrival at Zia International Airport (ZIA), the minister was driven straight to the his hotel suite from where the hotel authorities called the Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka in Baridhara at about 8:00am for consultation.

"After the call I sent Dr Balaji to his suite and he examined the minister's right ankle. As Dr Balaji decided an X-ray exposure was necessary, the minister was immediately brought to the hospital," said Dr Praful Parwar, director of medical services.

"The minister suffered 'soft tissue injury' but we found no fracture in his bone. We've put a 'posterior slab' on his ankle for fast relieve of pain."

Dr Prasant Agarwal, consultant of orthopaedic, treated the minister.

The minister was released three hours after his admission and a bill for his treatment cost was sent to the Indian mission in Dhaka.
