JS Reserved Seats
36 candidates elected uncontested

Thirty-six candidates in the election to women's reserved seats in parliament were unofficially elected uncontested as the last date of withdrawing their candidatures expired yesterday.

The returning officer (RO) however said he will officially declare them elected tomorrow, three day ahead of the schedule for polling.

The RO will also disclose the information submitted by the candidates about themselves in accordance with an eight-point directive of the High Court.

Among the 36, 30 are from the ruling BNP, three from Jamaat-e-Islami, two from Jatiya Party (Ershad) and one from Bangladesh Jatiya Party.

The schedule for the election to the nine seats allocated in favour of main opposition Awami League will be declared in 21 workdays. The AL had earlier rejected the seats.
