Moudud regrets SB move at High Court

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Moudud Ahmed yesterday expressed regret at making Justice ABM Khairul Haque leave his court because of an intelligence agency official on Wednesday.

The minister claimed it was not a government order rather ignorance of the official of the Special Branch of police.

Justice Khairul Haque is the one of the justices of the High Court bench that gave the verdict declaring the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution illegal.

An SB official on Wednesday made him come down from his bench in the middle of a hearing, leaving the courtroom.

Terming the incident unacceptable and unfortunate, Moudud told BBC Bangla Service last night, "It is very unfortunate. Intelligence agencies can never call a justice out of the court room when he is busy performing his duty."

"It is not the order of the government. It's ignorance of that intelligence agency official. The government will surely look into the matter," the BBC reported the law minister as saying.
