Afro-Asian finale set up

Sri Lankan batsmen Kumar Sanga-kkara and Mahela Jayawardene hit polished half-centuries as the Asia XI levelled the Afro-Asia Cup series against an Africa XI at Kingsmead Saturday.Sangakkara was responsible for two run outs and a diving catch while Jayawardene held three catches in the slips and another on the boundary. Sangakarra's run outs included a direct hit and a smart piece of thinking which accounted for big hitting Justin Kemp. The Asia XI made 267 for seven and bowled out the Africans, who won the first match by two runs in Centurion Wednesday, for 250 to win by 17 runs. Kemp was run out after Steve Tikolo played the ball into the covers and set off for a run. Kemp did not respond. It seemed Tikolo would be run out but Sangakkara did not take off the bails and instead threw the ball to the bowler, vice-captain Muttiah Muralitharan, and Kemp, standing out of his ground, was out. Muralitharan captained the Asia side on the field after captain Inzamamul Haq strained a groin when he slipped while batting. The foundation for the Asia XI total was laid by Sangakkara and India's Virender Sehwag (38), who put on 91 for the second wicket off 101 balls after Shahid Afridi had played a typical innings, hitting the first ball he faced from Heath Streak for six over cover then playing across the line to be leg before off the next delivery. The Africa XI made a brisk start but their momentum slowed after pinch-hitting opening batsman Mark Boucher was dismissed when the total was on 23 in the fourth over. AB de Villiers made a streaky 39, during which he was dropped twice. Kemp hit 38 and Kenya's Tikolo made top score of 43, like De Villiers surviving two chances.
