30 injured as JCD factions clash at IU

At least 30 students were injured in factional clashes of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on the Islamic University (IU) campus yesterday noon.

At about 11:00am, JCD men brought out a procession on the campus that was attended by a large number of outsiders.

A group of JCD activists led by its Joint Secratery Jhontu and Vice-president Shahidul protested entrance of outsiders in JCD's procession. They ransacked the proctor's office and fired a blank shot inside the office.

During the clashes between the Jhontu-Shahidul group and the followers of organisation President Mominur Rahman and Secretary Humayun Babor Firoz, at least 30 bullets were exchanged.

At one stage, the followers of the president and the secretary chased the JhontuShahidul group out of the campus.

At least 30 activists of both the groups were injured in the clashes.

Critically injured Manik was sent to Jhenidah General Hospital. The other injured were admitted to IU medical centre.

Extra police have been deployed on the campus as a tense situation is prevailing there.
