Security beefed up in Rajshahi
The law enforcement agencies have beefed up security measures in and around the city to fend off any untoward incident, as Maoists have just held a secret meeting in the division.
Northern region's Maoist operatives' three-day meeting to organise their coordination committee of the Maoist Parties and Organisations of South Asia in the country ended yesterday, sources said.
Patrol by police has been increased by four times than usual as the law enforcers have failed to trace the Maoists.
Police and other law enforcers raided almost all the residential hotels last evening. They arrested about 35 people for their suspicious movement after zero hours.
Most of them, however, were released after brief interrogation.
"We hunted them (Maoists) with our best efforts; they are unlikely to be in the city," said a senior officer at Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
He said, "We think they are not in the city. But even then we have strengthened security measures."
A source had however said the Maoists have no immediate plan for any armed action.
"We are not willing to go for violent action now. Our target is to hold our annual conference successfully," the source added.
