Latest Attacks on Ahmadiyyas
A testimony to alarming extremism: Saber

Awami League leader Saber Hossain Chowdhury yesterday said the latest bomb attacks and arson on the Ahmadiyya community in Brahmanbaria is a testimony to alarming extremism under the four-party alliance administration.

"We've all along strongly condemned the attacks on the Ahmadiyyas and other religious minorities… And the latest attack on them is a manifestation of the alarming extremism and intolerance under the BNP-Jamaat government," he said.

Saber, political secretary of opposition leader Sheikh Hasina, said "It is now an established fact that Jamaat activists are the leading striking force of Khatm-E-Nabuwat."

He said the issue is not one of the Ahmadiyyas being Muslims or non-Muslims, "rather one of our constitution guaranteeing freedom to all faiths."

"The government should protect minorities in a democracy, not encourage their persecution through a climate of impunity," Saber said.
