Nestle launches new brand powdered milk
Star Business Report
Nestle Bangladesh Limited yesterday launched a new product -- NIDO Growing up Milk -- for children aged between two and four. The product was rolled out through a press briefing organised at Spectra Convention Center in Dhaka. Carlo Cifiello, managing director of the company, said the new brand of milk contains such an ingredient that helps the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria, which prevents harmful bacteria from entering the digestive system and thus keeps children healthy. A 350-gram pack of powdered milk will be available in local market from the next week with a retail price of Tk 180. Cifiello said 44 percent import, supplementary and other taxes are responsible for the high prices of powdered milk in Bangladesh. The government imposed higher taxes on imported milk to boost local dairy farms. "We appreciate any step to give a boost to local industry. But the fact is that local dairy farms can meet only a very small portion of the demand for milk and the rest of the demand is met through import," Cifiello added. Aftab Uz Zaman Khan, nutrition director, Mohsin Uddin Ahmed, sales director, Nuzhat Yusuf, brand manager, among others, were present at the launching ceremony.
