A total of 10 Swedish Scania buses will be added to the fleet of Green Line.

Speaking at a press briefing on the eve of the launch, Iqbal Hasan, chief executive officer of A1 Motors, said introduction of Scania buses will add extra comforts to passengers.

A1 Motors, the sole distributor of Volvo Car Overseas Corporation AB and exclusive agent for Scania buses in Bangladesh, organised the briefing in Dhaka yesterday.

Assembled by MTrans of Malaysia, the 45-seated European buses are equipped with various special features such as automatic chassis lubrication, low maintenance, less fuel consumption, audio-visual facilities, traction control, electronic diesel control and German-made Webasto air-conditioning system. Each Scania bus cost Tk 1.35 crore.

Communications Minister Nazmul Huda will inaugurate the launching of the new buses at a function today.

Responding to a query, Salauddin Apu, deputy managing director of Green Line, said Tk 20 or Tk 25 may be added to the existing fare of Tk 350 for Dhaka-Chittagong route on Scania buses.

"We are also going to introduce 30 more Scania buses including 10 exclusive double-deckers on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet route very soon," he said.

Selim Ahmed, director (Finance and Administration), and Firoz Ahmed, director of A1 Motors, were also present at the function.
