The Bangladesh cricket team woke up on Saturday morning only to learn that their beloved coach Dav Whatmore was very anxious to take the first available flight to Melbourne so that he could be by the side of his ailing father.Davenell Clifford, 91, is reported to be fighting for life in a Melbourne hospital and was breathing through a life-support machine. Whatmore has left for London and was scheduled to embark on a 2 pm flight and was likely reach Melbourne on Sunday. "We first learnt that his father was dead. But when I rang the hospital doctors said he was on life-support. Dav is leaving today and is unlikely to return before our last game on May 30," said BCB's cricket committee chairman Mahbub Anam. Mahbub also said that they were thinking of a makeshift arrangement in the absence of Whatmore. "We are constantly in touch with our CEO Macky Dudhia back home. Board president Ali Asghar is coming here. But I'm afraid it will not be possible for someone to fly from Dhaka and join the team before the Leeds match on Sunday," said Mahbub. There is however a strong possibility a senior player in the side might act as coach-cum-player for the last two games. Meanwhile, manager MA Latif said that the players were upset hearing the news at the breakfast table at the Victoria and Albert hotel. "They all came together and consoled coach Whatmore," said the manager.
