Govt plotting to divert Aug 21 carnage investigation
Awami League (AL) presidium member Zillur Rahman, MP yesterday alleged the government is hatching a plot to divert the probe into the August 21 carnage to a different track.
"The government is apparently showing its sincerity by bringing Interpol under international pressure. But all evidence of the carnage has been destroyed over the last 10 months," he told a press conference at his Gulshan house in the capital.
The current probe into the August 21 grenade attack is nothing but eyewash that aims to link AL leaders and workers to the carnage, he alleged.
"The government is now forcing notorious criminal Arman to give statement accusing Awami League of the attack," the AL leader said.
Replying to a question, Zillur said the AL will never contest the next general elections under the current caretaker government system.
"We'll force the government to reform the caretaker government system and the Election Commission," he said.
He said proper democratic atmosphere will prevail if three successive national elections were held in free and fair manner.
On internal feud, Zillur said the AL is such a big political party that discord to some extent may emerge among its leaders and activists.
