A band of notorious pirates shot four fishermen and seriously injured nine others early yesterday at Meghna Hatia Channel.

The injured said that a gang of 40 to 50 pirates attacked two fishing trawlers with firearms and sharp weapons early Friday and looted properties, including cash, fishes, fishing materials worth Tk 15 lakh.

The bullet-hit fishermen were identified as Motaleb Gazi,40, Lokman Bepari,35, Ali Ashraf Mridha, 55, and Md Harun, 53.
