CIH virus warning

Computer users have been asked to take necessary measures to avoid possible attacks from the CIH virus, also known as the Chernobyl virus, which routinely activates on its anniversary on April 26.Users can take necessary precautions by using the latest anti-virus software or by changing the date of their computer's BIOS so that it does not register as April 26, a press release of Bangladesh Computer Council said. BIOS is the part of the operating system that provides the lowest level interface to peripheral devices. The BIOS is stored in the ROM on the computer's motherboard. CIH can cause irreparable damage to the computer, but only if the users run the Windows 95 or Windows 98 operating systems.
