Another arrested in Ctg arms case

Police arrested another accused in the sensational Chittagong arms haul case on Saturday night from his village home in Patiya Upazila, raising the number of arrestees to 17.

Patiya police yesterday produced the arrestee, Osman Mistri, before a court here from where he was sent to jail.

The Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court on Saturday framed charges against 43 accused in the case under the Arms Act. The court also fixed May 21 for the hearing of the case.

On April 2, 2004, law enforcers seized 10 truckloads of smuggled arms and weapons at the Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Ltd. jetty. Police later filed two cases with the Karnaphuli Police Station under the Chittagong Metropolitan Police -- one under section-19 (ka) of the Arms Act and the other under the Special Power Act section-25/B for smuggling.
