First World Cup scorer dead

The first ever scorer in football's World Cup finals, French midfielder Lucien Laurent, has died aged 97, a French radio station reported on Tuesday.

Laurent, who scored with a volley against Mexico in the opening match of the 1930 finals in Uruguay which France won 4-1, played 10 times for his country and scored twice.
