Mohali Test

The Pakistanis put up a great fight to save the Mohali Test which was at one stage in India's pocket. The Indians failed to demonstrate the kind of killer instinct needed to take the last throb of life out of the enemy. There was some really gritty batting by the late middle order Pakistani batsmen.

Inzamam must be a happy man, because he did not have to start the series with a loss. But I don't see any reason why his worries should be over. India still have a chance to outplay the Pakistanis whose brittle batting must be source of great concern to Bob Wolmer. The Pakistanis are also playing without their strike bowler, Shoaib Akhter. True, he has never been predictable. But one must not forget that a few good overs from him can destroy the best batting line-up in the world.

Cricket fans may not agree with me that the Pakistanis were lucky at Mohali. No, I don't want to downplay the glory of the late middle order comeback. What I mean is that it may not be possible to repeat the feat every time Pakistan get into this kind of trouble. The point must not be missed--the Indians will be piling up a huge total on a regular basis.
