Play more acceptable, impartial role

A delegation of Jatiya Sangbadik Sangstha called on President Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban in the city yesterday.

During the meeting, the President told the delegation that mass media has been enjoying full freedom in Bangladesh. He said press freedom should be used properly for welfare of the people and the nation.

He said the important contributions of professional journalists to national development have received appreciation from all quarters.

He said that the people always expect a responsible role from the professional communities.

Iajuddin urged the journalists to play more acceptable and impartial role for upholding the great profession of journalism.

The President was presented some recommendations for the development of journalism.

The recommendations include formation of welfare trust for journalists, ensuring security for professional journalists, smooth implementation of Wage Board Award for mofassil correspondents and giving 80 per cent of their salary from government fund.

Sangstha's chairman Altaf Hossain led the delegation.
