Domestic help beaten,fights for life at DMCH

A domestic help, beaten mercilessly by a young couple over a trifling matter, is fighting for life at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

She was lying unconscious at the DMCH post-operative unit till 8:00 last night.

"A blunt trauma over her abdomen has been developed and her condition is critical," said a doctor seeking anonymity.

Dolly Akhter, 14, was kicked in her abdomen by her employer Afzal and his wife Sharmin on the night of December 17. She started vomiting after the beatings.

A physician was called in at their house at 49, Agamasi Lane in Kotwali thana for her treatment.

The physician suggested Afzal to get her admitted in a clinic as her condition deteriorated.

Dolly was shifted to the DMCH on Tuesday, and underwent an operation there next day.

Dolly's mother Mortuza Begum alleged that Afzal and his wife trampled her daughter as she entered into an argument with them over going to rooftop of their house.

Angur Mian, Dolly's father, filed a general diary (GD) with Kotwali Police Station on Wednesday against the couple.

Police said Afzal's family has been absconding since the filing of GD.
