Red alert in Khulna city

Khulna metropolitan city has been put on red alert from Thursday night, following intelligence information that outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) operatives entered the city with a plan to attack policemen and loot their arms.

Extremists may also attack some key installations in the city, sources said.

All police stations, outposts and camps have been asked to remain on high alert and security measures at key points have been strengthened.

KMP police have set up checkposts in all important places, intensified patrol and are keeping watch on any suspected person, and checking motorbike riders.

Forces on duty at local newspaper offices and different bureau offices of Dhaka-based dailies have also been directed to remain on high alert and wear bullet-proof jackets.

On Wednesday night police arrested two listed extremists belonging to Janajuddha faction of the PBCP from near Khulna District Jail.
