Rab releases ex-AL leader

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Khan Ibna Zaman, a former organising secretary of Khulna City Awami League, on Thursday from Jorhagata area, but he was released after interrogation.He was expelled from Awami League in 1999 for anti-party activities. Meanwhile, Rab arrested Shabbir Hossain Talukder, chairman of Malliker Berh Union Parishad and joint secretary of Rampal Upazila Awami League, from his house on Wednesday. He was sent to the Bagerhat district Jail on Thursday afternoon. Rab also seized a foreign-made pistol, a double barrel gun, a pipe gun, three daggers and 40 rounds of ammunition. Shabbir is a FIR-named accused in three murder cases, police sources said.
