Wheat scandal:Importing farm owner arrested

Hazi Mustaq Ahmed, owner of Sonia Enterprise, importing farm of rotten wheat from India, was arrested and sent to jail on Tuesday.

He appeared before the court and prayed for bail, but the court rejected his prayer.

Mustaq imported 2,020 metric tons of wheat from India. Forty Indian rail wagons carried the wheat to Saidpur. During its unloading bad smell of rotten wheat spread all around.

Local people informed the matter to police who seized a portion of imported wheat. Major porttion of the imported rotten wheat was taken to unidentified destination before police intervention. The district administration formed a high power inquiry committee. The committee found 54 per cent of imported wheat to be rotten and unfit for human consumption. A case was filed against Mustaq by the government.

In a bid to avoid arrest, Mustaqe went into hiding and later was granted interim bail from the High Court. The High Court ordered him to take bail from the district Judge court within six weeks. But during the period he did not seek bail from the Judge Court of Nilphamari. On Wednesday, he appeared before the court and prayed for bail which was rejected.
