Q'land move into strong position

Pace bowlers Andy Bichel and Joe Dawes combined to place Queens-land in a commanding position at stumps on the second day of their Sheffield Shield cricket match against Tasmania at the Gabba here on Tuesday.

Having earlier put on a 45-run tenth-wicket partnership that guided the hosts to a first innings total of 384, Bichel and Dawes backed up with a superb display of pace bowling as Tasmania slumped to 190 for eight in reply.

Bichel finished the day with 2-23 and Dawes had 2-33.

Only a fighting half-century by Tasmanian paceman Damien Wright halted the Queensland onslaught.

Wright remained unbeaten on 52 as Tasmania edged closer to the follow-on target of 235.
